U13s are back !!!!!

Bold Rangers U13s vs Leigh

We’ve been looking forward to this friendly for weeks and were a little unsure how we’d cope with the pressure of the big pitch and overall general fitness but within the first few minutes of the game we knew that we were in for a treat.  Looking great in their new kit the players ‘buzzed’ about all over the pitch and at times bewildered the opposition with their passing and control.

The big pitch worked in our favour, allowing players more time on the ball and for the midfielders to split the opposition defence wide open with passes straight through the middle to the wingers, who then quickly skipped down the sides and fed balls straight back into the middle.  We kept the opposition keeper on his toes in the first half with 12 shots on target and going in 5-0 up at the break.

Tom's goal was pure magic as he worked his way round players straight through the middle of the pitch and put it past the keeper. Brandon Buckley had a blinding game playing in the CAM position and fed his team mates at every opportunity, his persistence also rewarding him with a goal when he chased a rebound. Travis Mather chased and battled hard for each ball and after being denied a couple of times earlier he was rewarded with a nice finish.

After one more minute Jacob ran down the wing, rounding players and cutting in to fire the ball into the back of the net and then two minutes after that Trav was able to latch onto a loose ball and slot his second home.

The second half saw Leigh catch us out seven minutes in, with a simple tap in from a corner which we managed to miss but two minutes later we gave them one back when Reece Bridge hammered one in from a lovely ball off Aaron Lethbridge.  Leigh struck again a minute later when a simple mistake at the back cost us a goal but two minutes after that Trav assisted Tom to his second and also assisted Lewis to his first only a minute later.

Another 5 minutes of great football then saw Trav complete his hat-trick when Lewis returned the favour after Jacob fed one in to him. Jacob then took off on another nice solo run which also saw the ball find its way to the back of the net after he rounded the winger and then the defender before firing his shot in.  Leigh caught us out with two high lobbed shots towards the end of the game, which most keepers would struggle with due to the accuracy of the shots, but these were merely consolation goals.

The final score was 11-4 to Bold and we came off the pitch looking far less tired than we expected after putting in a really great performance.  There was lots of individual skill on display today, however it was lovely to see the way that the team played for each other and was fantastic to see how well the new players settled into the side.  Our regular defenders Reece and Mackenzie Buckley had really solid games with new player Josh doing really well and tackling anyone that came within his area. Alex Stout stood in at the back for the whole first half and put in a great performance reading the game exceptionally well.

The centre- midfield today, comprising of Lewis, Tom, Brandon and Aaron were superb at spreading the ball around with some beautiful footwork, control and passing which was just fantastic to watch.

Trav as the solo striker today played a great game and did everything he needed to control the match at the front with both wingers travelling in and almost acting as second strikers at times to help keep the pressure on. Michael Watkin did well in goal today after arriving having little or no sleep following a return from holiday and feeling sick before the game started. For much of the game he was able to relax and watch but pulled off a couple of lovely saves when called for.

The opposition arrived expecting to win today and we proved to be too strong for them.  Training as normal on Tuesday. If everyone puts the effort in on the training ground, then the games are ours for the taking.

Our next match should be at home on Thursday night but we’re just waiting for confirmation and will keep everyone posted.

Cant wait for the season to start now!
